My Desk

This is roughly what my desk looks like, 3D'd up : )

Looks a bit unnaturally empty doesn't it? Well that's because, honestly, there is just too much crap on my desk to model and most of it is useless junk.

So I just modelled the 'key' things that are always sitting on my desk....twas fun!

Hotdogs

More 3D experimenting, this time with a colourful hotdog van!

On a side note, I've had a lot of people contacting me and asking "What program do I use to make my 3D look the way yours does?" or something similar. As happy as I am to answer this question, I feel like I should put my answer to this here to save further repetition and to inform those of you who are wondering:

I work in Maya but my processes are technically quite basic and I'm confident that the type of finish can be achieved in any other 3D program. I'm not using any program specific filters or effects - my models are generally low-poly and are fullbright. This means that all of the colour/design work is in the texture and the light/dark 'shading' you see is actually painted and therefore fake. Basically, I believe that it's more about the creativity than the technicalities; you should be dictating your work, not your tools :)

Rooftop Nibbles

Since learning 3D, I've yet to model a building...until now! Below is the result of hours of vertex manipulating and tea drinking. I know, I could have just modelled a simple shed or something but I wanted to challenge myself and be really thorough in the design.

Damn, 3D is fun.

Paper Boats 3D

This is another version of my Paper Boats image; this time as a 3D illustration.
I wanted to experiment with mixing 2D & 3D within a single picture - quite pleased with the outcome actually :)

Mr. Radish

Spent the last few hours making this little radish guy. Everytime I make some 3D, I just can't get over how fun it is to see my characters pop up to 'life'. Actually, there's a part of me that says "stop the 2D and make it all 3D" but I'm not sure if I could really do that. Nevertheless, I highly recommend learning 3D to everyone!

Say hello to Mr. Radish...

Squid Kid

It's been quite a while since I last had a play around in 3D so I decided to make my little 2009 "squid kid" come alive. Had lots of fun with this and it's got me into modelling again so there may be more to come very soon!

Squid Kid

On another note, I've had many comments from people here and at DeviantArt suggesting what my weird fruit thing could actually be. For general interest and merriment, here is a list of all the suggestions:
  • Daikon
  • Ill-shaped pear
  • Naked pineapple
  • Lovechild of a turnip and strawberry
  • Marshmellow fruit
  • Big tic-tac fruit
  • Undeveloped grape
  • Giant japanese winter berry
  • Candyfloss
As a conclusion, I think that I will settle on it being a giant tic-tac fruit because that seems to be what it looks like the most, but I love hearing all the fun ideas so thank you for exercising your minds!

Hoo-ah!!

It's been a while since I last touched upon 3D so decided to freshen myself up with some more TF2 fun: myself as the soldier this time around :)

Wallpaper and watermelon

The trees outside my window are just starting to turn a vibrant yellow colour which made me realise how much I love autumn. So, today, I created a butternut squash and apple pattern which you may use as your desktop wallpaper if you like! :)

and then there was a very un-autumn slice of 3D watermelon...

A walking treat

So I decided to have a go at some animation in 3D too, and what else could I have animated other than a yummy doughnut covered in pink frosting!
I love him! :)

Oh Honey!

Some more 3D practice again. Thoroughly enjoying it and can't wait to spend more time practising!

I wish these existed. Although, if they did, I'd feel sad for pulling one down and eating it :-(
