Witch

After a year or so of pretty much straight-up programming, the game project has now moved onto the art side of things, which means I'm drawing more again! Practising my figure drawing was the first stop, so I guess this illustration is a kind of a test for that!

This is actually going to be my last post on here though; I'll be keeping it simple and posting all future stuff on my tumblr.

Little Tiger

I am awful at updating my blog; second post this year and it's already June - sorry, guys.
Odonata is progressing really well, though!

As always, I draw a little something for my dad when Father's Day comes around :)

Books

Wow this blog is pretty dusty... *blows*

Can't believe it's been well over a month since I last posted here - sorry for the lack of activity everyone! Basically I've had my programming head screwed on for a while and been hard at work learning lots of new things to get Odonata back up to scratch.

I did put my drawing head on for a while though, because I couldn't make this post without any pictures!

Father Fox

Well, this blog has certainly been gathering some dust. I'm going to have to apologise for the lack of regular posts... my hands have been spending more time programming than drawing (even this fox took quite some effort to finish!). I couldn't not draw something for my dad on Father's Day though, he's the greatest :)

Flame

Oof, didn't realise that it's been 3 weeks since my last post on here - Odonata's been going through some significant changes recently and time just seems to be flying by insanely fast!

This flame-y guy came from a really tiny doodle in my notebook, I like it when that happens.

Soup

Decided to draw the soup I ate today. Tasted pretty good.

March

March has been a tough month so far; pulling the game together into a presentable state has proven to be much more work than expected, but things are going well as you might be glad to hear :)

There's always time for a bit of drawing though. Here's two cards I made recently for my family:

One for my lovely mum on Mother's Day...

...and one for my youngest sister who isn't so young any more.

Merry Christmas

Why does it always feel like Christmas comes around every year so fast?! Not that I'm complaining of course... cheesy music, family, snow & enough food to last me another year :)

Have a wonderful Christmas everybody!

Picture Process

After having not done a more 'refined' drawing in a while, I thought I'd take a few screenshots as I worked on this one. There's nothing spectacular about my process but this is for those who have asked me about it and for anybody else who's a bit curious!

Here is the finished illustration...

...and here are some snapshots of how it came about:

Some notes:
- Each colour is usually on a different layer and I use layer clipping masks to add gradients.
- Shadows are on a separate layer, above all others, using Multiply as the layer blend.
- I always keep the sketch in the corner while working, to help retain the original idea.

Dita

After coming across this photo of Dita Von Teese, I had to draw those clothes - with Autumn settling in, they look just perfect.

Also decided to make the linework dark for a change which, to be honest, doesn't look as bad as I thought it would!

Birthday Teapot

A birthday drawing for my tea-loving mum.

It's a little different than my usual stuff, a bit more 'graphic' I guess.

Leaping

It's that time of year again where Wimbledon manages to prove to me that 3 hour long tennis matches are really distracting. However while watching Tsonga beat Federer I did manage to make a tennis related illustration, so all was not wasted!

Leaping

What's this? A non-white background and a full human?! This was a refreshing deviation from what I've being doing way too much recently.

Drawn for my dad, of course, sent along with his favourite mint chocolates.
